The Motherhood Studies Practitioner Certification 2024

Begins April 29th 2024

A sociological, evidence-based course for those who work with, or aspire to work with mothers.

In this program, you will:

- Learn about the ways Mothers are often left feeling unsupported, overwhelmed, guilty, depleted, invisible, burdened, misunderstood, and craving connection and space – and learn what you can do to help them

- Gain an understanding of Motherhood that goes beyond individually-focused information, and connects the personal Mother experience with the broader picture

- Learn how the current, disempowering system of Motherhood was created, how it impacts individual mothers, why it continues in the way it does and how we can come together to make a difference for Mothers

- Transform the way you view Motherhood and how you work with Mothers so you can feel more confident in providing a broader and more impactful level of support

  • There are 8 modules of content that will be released fortnightly across 4 months.
  • On the week a module is released, there will be two facilitated community co-working sessions. These are designed to help mark out time in your calendar to complete the course for accountability and for group support.
  • The week following the release of a module, I will hold two live-classroom Zoom calls (to accommodate different time zones). All calls are recorded and available to watch as a replay.
  • The course structure is designed to support you in completing the content ‘live’ along with other course participants.
  • However, if you are not able to complete the course as it runs, you still retain access to content to work through at your own pace until July 2023.

"This program has been one of the most influential experiences in my life. I feel confident moving forward working with mothers, and I have a better understanding of myself and my practice. This coursework unveils the work that needs to be done from a social justice standpoint, and pushes ourselves to self-reflect and connect with others. This program also unveils the need for motherhood studies to be a legitimate academic discipline."

“Working with Sophie was an amazing experience. She has an awe-inspiring depth and command of this knowledge. The course both centered and enlightened me. I felt the concepts that were discussed and their applicability to my own motherhood journey so deeply and appreciated their universality. I look forward to the potential to bring motherhood studies further out in the world, with Sophie and my fellow practitioners. Every mother or person who works with mothers should know this!”

"Sophie’s knowledge and articulation of deep, broad, varied and diverse topics, concepts, histories, intersections and contexts is phenomenal. As is her access to leading motherhood scholars and academic material. This certification includes a lot of content, nuance and complexity, distilled in a uniquely digestible way. My perspectives of myself, my children, the people around me, other mothers and the broader society in which we mother has shifted and evolved – thanks to Sophie and the other women in this course.”

"This course has been amazing. It has given me a language to explain everything I have felt over the last few years. It has healed me in so many ways. I have made contacts with amazing women. Most importantly though, I have felt more like me! Time to think, reflect, process... I cannot thank you enough.”
